I remember being in my early 20s and working 12-14 hour days without a break (or limited one). I was proud of it. I hustled and worked hard, maybe toiling more than most people. I strove to be better, and I was, at least in my own mind. I had boundless energy with came from my overflowing pride. I could do no wrong, that is, unless I rested and took a break.
Then I crashed, hard.
That was over five years old, and I vow to never work that hard again. This is not that I am lazy, but I enjoy life more than ever. This does not mean I’m always happy, but I am more easily able to find joy in life. It means I don’t fake happiness anymore. You might not always be able to spot joy with a look at my face, but it’s there. It’s a joy down within; it’s a joy satisfied wherever I am in life.
In fact, right now I’m listening to a song while typing this article (one of my favorite things)…
Let there be dancing in the darkness
And let our song break through the night
Lift your voice and sing that Christ is King
For Jesus is aliveHallelujah, death is undone
Jesus is Alive by CityAlight
Hallelujah, Jesus has won
Hallelujah, we overcome
Oh in Jesus, oh in Jesus
… and I only type articles I’m interested in writing. Write and do what you enjoy and to which glorifies God. Enjoy life and find gratitude in the little things in life.
What brings you joy?
This is a great perspective Paul. Thanks for sharing.
